Overview
Highlights of our MOCA Course • Topics designed equally for BOTH GENERAL and PEDIATRIC Anesthesiologists • Anesthesiology topics and teamwork principles are equally emphasized • Activities are designed to promote active participation • All ABA/ASA Endorsed Simulation program course requirements have been incorporated in order to receive the maximum 25 MOCA 2.0 Part 4 points • Participants will receive a new AHA PALS Provider card upon successful completion of the course [and prior completion of the on-line PALS HeartCode module] • All participants will receive an AHA PALS pocket reference card and complimentary access to the PALS HeartCode module • All participants will function as the lead physician at least ONCE • Confidential debriefing sessions will occur after all simulation exercises • Participants are NOT graded on their performance at any time • Course length is a minimum of 6 hours Educational Objectives At the conclusion of the lecture, the participants should be better able to: Utilize effective Crisis Resource Management principles and team communication during a critical pediatric perioperative incident Recognize the anesthetic implications of common ethical situations during critical medical events within the pediatric perioperative environment Develop an effective management plan for critical medical events within the pediatric perioperative environment Perform effective pediatric resuscitation during a critical medical event within the perioperative environment Target Audience Physicians, residents, fellows, and other healthcare professionals Our course is held in the well-appointed Texas Children’s Hospital Simulation Center. Your sessions will be held in a modern high-fidelity medical simulation theater and conference room. We realize that this activity may make you feel uncomfortable. All debriefing sessions will occur with the strictness amount of confidentiality from the faculty and participants. In addition, since the main purpose of this activity is future improvement, participants are NOT graded on their performance at any time. We will provide you with a detailed orientation process to medical simulation and all of the equipment you may utilize prior to any instruction. We offer a $200 Early Registration Discount for courses booked by the deadline One of only 3 Endorsed programs which focus on pediatric anesthesiology topics This MOCA Simulation Course is designed for the pediatric anesthesiologist and general anesthesiologist that cares for pediatric patients This course is Fully Endorsed by the ASA/ABA to offer MOCA 2.0 Part 4 simulation courses All simulation faculty are board-certified in pediatric anesthesiology, have received specialized training in medical simulation, and most are AHA PALS Instructors This course takes place in the well-appointed Texas Children’s Hospital Simulation Center Our location in Houston, Texas offers great flexibility if travel is required from most parts of the country Upon completion of this course and the follow-up evaluation, participants will receive 25 points towards their MOCA 2.0 Part 4 requirements [which is the entire amount for a 5-year period] The overall goal is to offer an Endorsed Simulation Program which will fulfill the American Board of Anesthesiology Part 4 MOC requirements. Additionally, we will offer an Endorsed simulation experience specializing in pediatric anesthesiology; this will make us the 2nd American Society of Anesthesiologists, Endorsed Simulation program in the nation specializing in pediatric anesthesiology. Finally, the most important goal is to provide an active learning experience in high-risk and rare events in pediatric anesthesiology while emphasizing team performance such as Crisis Resource Management principles.

Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, learners will be able to:

  1. Utilize effective Crisis Resource Management principles and team communication during a critical pediatric perioperative incident.
  2. Recognize the anesthetic implications of common ethical situations during critical medical events within the pediatric perioperative environment.
  3. Develop an effective management plan for critical medical events within the pediatric perioperative environment.
  4. Perform effective pediatric resuscitation during a critical medical event within the perioperative environment.

Accreditation

Texas Children’s Hospital is accredited by the Texas Medical Association to provide continuing medical education for physicians. Texas Children’s Hospital designates this activity for a maximum of 20.00 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

Texas Children’s Hospital is accredited with distinction as a provider of nursing continuing professional development by the American Nurses Credentialing Center's Commission on Accreditation. Cancellation Policy

Registration/Refund/Cancellation Policies

1. Enrollment is on a first-come, first-served basis and is contingent upon proof of payment. Each course requires a minimum number of learners to avoid cancellation. If less than the minimum number of learners register 30 days prior to the course date, the Program may choose to cancel the course.  If the course is canceled, learners will have the option of either receiving a full refund or transferring their enrollment to another available course date.
2. The program will reserve a space for you, once we receive your payment for the entire course fee. Incomplete registrations will go on a wait-list.
3. Learners enrolled on a course date may change to a different available course date without penalty, up to 60 business days prior to the originally registered course.
4. Learners can cancel a course reservation up until 30 business days prior to a course, and the course fee will be refunded, minus a $300 processing fee.
5. If learners cancel or change a reservation less than 30 business days prior to their scheduled course, their course fee will not be refunded unless another learner on the wait-list fills their spot and the entire payment from the new learner is received by the Program.  If the spot is filled, the course fee will be refunded minus a $300 processing fee.
6. Substitutions of learners are allowed up to 30 business days in advance of the course.  If a substitution of learners occurs, we will refund the course fee, minus a $300 processing fee, but only after the entire new payment is received by the Program.
7. All cancellations, scheduling change requests, and substitutions must be submitted in writing via email or certified letter. A written or electronic mail response from the Program must occur to confirm receipt of any request.
8. Learners who do not show up for a course forfeit their entire course fee.
9. The program is not responsible for losses in any travel expenses for any reason.
10. In order to be eligible to receive an AHA PALS Provider card, all learners understand that successful completion of the on-line AHA PALS HeartCode module is required PRIOR to the course date. All learners MUST bring a copy of the AHA PALS HeartCode completion certificate to the course. The Program is not responsible in any way for any issues related to the AHA PALS HeartCode software access, performance or completion. If a learner fails to provide an AHA PALS HeartCode module completion certificate, they WILL be able to complete the MOCA course and receive full ABA and CME credits but they will not be eligible to receive a new AHA PALS Provider card.
