Overview
This course is designed to increase familiarity of school nurses with the care of technology dependent, medically complex children. Specifically, this course focuses on children with tracheostomies, urostomies, colostomies and gastric tubes. It covers the normal and routine care, troubleshooting and when to seek additional assistance. The format will include prework didactic learning, followed by in-person skills sessions.

ANCC Learning Outcomes
  1. At conclusion of this activity, 90% of participants will identify at least one enhancement in care and management of the medically complex child.

Registration

Texas Children's Hospital West Campus in Katy will offer a course focusing on the care for medically complex children in the school setting. Specifically, children with tracheostomies (with or without a ventilator), urostomies, colostomies and gastrostomy tubes. The course will contain an at-home didactic session followed by a hands-on skills and high-fidelity simulation-based education workshop.

The course will take place on Friday, August 8, 2025 from, 8:30am-2pm at the Texas Children’s Hospital West Campus in Katy at 18200 Katy Fwy, Houston, TX 77094

*Lunch will be provided

Texas Children’s Hospital is accredited with distinction as a provider of nursing continuing professional development by the American Nurses Credentialing Center's Commission on Accreditation. This nursing continuing professional development (NCPD) activity awards up to 6.75 contact hours.
